This past weekend, Crispus Attucks Park was a grateful beneficiary of the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church Missions Conference. Youth attending the Missions Conference volunteered their Saturday afternoon to help maintain the park. They focused on two main projects: painting benches and planting bulbs
The workday was a huge success! Over the course of the afternoon, three benches were prepped and painted, and over 300 bulbs were planted. Huge thanks to the Missions Conference!
If maintaining the park sounds like fun, please consider volunteering at the next Fall Workday! We’ll build on this work of the Youth Workday and tackle important projects before we head into winter. Pruning trees and bushes, removing old posts, mulching flowerbeds, planting bulbs, and more. There will be appropriate projects for interested volunteers of all ages. Spend a morning to maintain and beautify the neighborhood!
We hope everyone is enjoying another Bloomingdale summer, hopefully including time in Crispus Attucks Park! As August draws to a close, it’s time to start thinking about upcoming September events.
First, our Fall quarterly meeting. All neighborhood residents are welcome to attend. We’ll plan the workday later in the month, update everyone on our current status, and discuss other upcoming projects.
Second, the Fall Youth Workday! We’re lucky to be joined by youth from neighborhood churches, who are volunteering their time! There will be projects appropriate for youth of elementary school age and up. (Note: we will hold another workday later in the fall more directed to projects [and tools] more appropriate for adults.)
Join Crispus Attucks Development Corporation, the nonprofit that owns and maintains Crispus Attucks Park, for our quarterly meeting! Keep up-to-date of Crispus Attucks Park activities, learn about volunteer opportunities, and help us plan future work.
All neighborhood residents are welcome to attend.
Come out to a fundraising happy hour at Boundary Stone this Wednesday! Boundary Stone will generously donate to the Park a significant portion of sales from 4-7pm, this Wednesday, June 4. All proceeds go to maintaining Crispus Attucks Park. Meet your neighbors, enjoy good food and drink, and raise some money for a valuable local cause!
Hope to see you there!
We are pleased to announce that this year’s Community Day and Yard Sale featuring the Taste of Bloomingdale was an enormous success! Hundreds of area residents spent part of their Saturday browsing the yard sale, tasting food from area restaurants, learning about local community organizations, and listening to great music, all with the purpose of supporting the park. And it worked! Together, we raised enough funds to cover around half of Crispus Attucks Park’s operating budget for the entire year.
Thank you to everyone who participated—yard sale vendors, shoppers, non-profits, and especially our local businesses and restaurants who donated precious time and resources to help maintain the unique community resource that is Crispus Attucks Park.
And thank you to everyone who took time out of their Saturday to support Crispus Attucks Park. We hope everyone who came enjoyed the beautiful weather and had a wonderful time!
These restaurants and businesses (in no particular order) supported this year’s event. Please make it a point to thank and show your support for them!
