Crispus Attucks Park

A Community Park in Bloomingdale Washington, D.C.

“The Cave Yard.” “The Secret Park.” Whatever you call it, Crispus Attucks Park is a unique space: a hidden 1.06 acre oasis of flowers, trees and grass, stretching the length of a city block and the width of a half-dozen rowhouses.  More than 40 years ago, the property looked nothing like it does today.  A burned out building and concrete and asphalt surfaces littered with abandoned cars would have greeted a visitor walking down the alley.  Neighborhood residents worked together to reclaim the space and transform it into the community gem it is today.

Crispus Attucks Park is named in honor of Crispus Attucks, an African American former slave and the first person to lose his life in the Boston Massacre, heralding the beginning of the American Revolution.

The park is located in the alley complex behind the unit blocks of U and V Sts. NW and the 2000 blocks of First and North Capitol Sts. NW, and is owned and managed by Crispus Attucks Development Corporation (CADC), a nonprofit, 501(c)(3), community development organization.

It costs over $45,000 a year to maintain the Park, including insurance, lawn maintenance, and more! All of this is supported by individual donors, public and private grants, and our neighborhood. Consider donating to the Park via the link below!
